Napoli and Serie A fans had no doubts, but Chelsea supporters took just 45 minutes to realise what Kalidou Koulibaly can bring. ‘This is an upgrade from Antonio Rudiger.’

The Senegal international completed his transfer to Stamford Bridge for €38m plus €2m in bonuses, translating to roughly £33.74m.

He was in the starting XI for his Premier League debut this evening away to Everton and by half-time already had Chelsea fans raving about his performance on social media.

Koulibaly not only made some goal-saving tackles, he also contributed upfront with a splendid through ball for Ben Chilwell, who was brought down for the penalty converted by his old Napoli teammate Jorginho.

“Chelsea didn’t just replace Rudiger, we upgraded with Koulibaly…” wrote one very popular fan account.

Some suggested K2 can already be a contender for “signing of the summer,” while another called him the “rock of ages.”

Notably, Koulibaly was playing as a left-sided centre-back, which had not always been guaranteed at Napoli or Chelsea.

  1. Serie A is so boring that a website called football-italia dedicates most of its articles are dedicated to Chelsea and Tottenham. Keep up the great work guys.

  2. One good game and he’s a god, really sums up football fans. Wait for the inevitable racial abuse when he has one bad game.
