According to reports in Italy, Chelsea have changed their minds on the future of Romelu Lukaku and are no longer prepared to extend his loan to Inter for another season.

The centre-forward realised within weeks that he had made a huge mistake leaving San Siro for Stamford Bridge and never gave up his apartment in Milan, knowing he would return one day.

It happened sooner than expected, as a year after that €115m transfer, he returned to the Nerazzurri on loan for €10m plus bonuses.

The two clubs were already working on an extension of the loan for another €10m and then hoping to buy back the Belgium international in 2024-25.

However, Calciomercato.com claims the situation has now changed and Chelsea are looking at the figures, realising they could take a massive hit on the entire Lukaku deal.

Instead, the idea would be to bring him back to Chelsea so that he can be sold to someone else over the summer, hoping to make back at least some of the money spent on him.

  1. Wow, if that happens, what a bad turn of events for Inter. They pay 10 million for someone who may play 10 games for them if lucky. Then he leaves.

  2. Then, he should be ready to waste his career on bench. Good luck to the donkey as he attempts that. You think that Chelsea is any of these serie a clubs that allow their have their way unnecessarily without consequences. E.g Milan.
