The Coppa Italia will have changes to the format in the 2024-25 season, including the removal of extra time up to the semi-final and Final.

The tournament was won this year by Juventus, who beat Atalanta 1-0 in the Final.

Many of the Italian quirks of the competition remain the same, so they are all one-off matches except for the semi-final, which is played over two legs.

The difference next term will be that extra time is scrapped for all those one-off games up to and including the quarter-finals.

So if the tie is level after 90 minutes, it goes straight to a penalty shoot-out.

In the semi-final and the Final, these fixtures which will have extra time and then penalties if the teams are tied.

Coppa Italia format

Once again, the top eight seeded teams (Juventus, Inter, Milan, Atalanta, Bologna, Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina) will only enter the tournament from the Round of 16.

The top seeded side will have the home advantage in one-off fixtures and the away goals rule is again not applicable.

Yellow cards are wiped going into the Round of 16.

VAR will be used throughout other than the very first preliminary round, but Goal Line Technology and the Semi-Automated Offside Technology will only be introduced from the Round of 16.

This is the format that will be used in the 2024-25, 2026-27 and 2027-28 editions of the Coppa Italia.
