Milan seemed to be just a step away on receiving millions for unneeded striker Divock Origi, but a change of plans at Nottingham Forest caused his move to Los Angeles FC to collapse.

The Rossoneri sent the 28-year-old Belgian forward out on loan to Forest last summer, allowing them to offload his €4m net per season wages and include a €4.5m buy option on the deal. His time in England hasn’t been particularly positive, managing no goal contributions across nine games.

LAFC emerged for Origi last month and had agreed to sign the striker from Milan on a loan deal with a €5m obligation to buy clause attached, giving the Rossoneri the chance to easily close this chapter. Things suddenly fell quiet, however, and no deal has been completed.

As reported by The Athletic, Nottingham Forest decided to take Origi off the market after starting striker Chris Wood suffered a hamstring injury that’ll keep him sidelined for the next six to eight weeks. As such, the Belgian was seen as key cover and wouldn’t be allowed to leave for LAFC.

For now, no deal will be completed, meaning Milan will miss out on a guaranteed €5m for the 28-year-old, who only managed two goals across 36 games during his time in the Lombardy capital.
