Atalanta are playing for the final place in the last 16 of the Champions League tonight and the draw for the round of 16 will take place on Monday. Here’s all you need to know.

Juventus and Inter are through to the next phase and Atalanta can still join them in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Simone Inzaghi has guided the Nerazzurri to the last 16 for the first time in 10 years, while Juventus are hoping to make it past the first knockout round.

Milan finished fourth in their group and are completely eliminated from European football, as the teams finishing third in the Champions League get a place in the Europa League.

When is the draw for the Champions League round of 16?

UEFA hosts the draw at their headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday, December 13 and the draw takes place at 11.00am UK time.

How does the draw work?

There are two pots of eight teams, with the respective group winners in Pot 1 (seeded) and the runners-up in Pot 2 (unseeded). The seeded teams from Pot 1 will play at home in the second of the two legs in the round of 16.

The group winners will thus play against one of the teams finishing second in another group. However, UEFA confirms ‘no teams can face another side from the same national association’ and the Italian teams will therefore not meet already in the next round.

When does the Champions League round of 16 take place?

The matches are scheduled to be played in February and March. The first legs will take place on February 15, 16, 22 and 23.

The return legs will take place on March 8, 9, 15 and 16.
