Ante Rebic is expected to start in Milan‘s attack against Liverpool tonight with Ismael Bennacer or Sandro Tonali in the middle of the park.

It kicks off at 20.00 UK time.

The Rossoneri play their first Champions League game in more than seven years and, for the first time in history, they face Liverpool at Anfield Road in a competitive match.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and Olivier Giroud, who has just recovered from COVID, Ante Rebic is expected to start as a sole striker for the Rossoneri with Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao behind him.

Simon Kjaer was rested against Lazio and will start at Anfield Road tonight along with former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori.

Franck Kessié will get the nod in the middle of the park and should be partnered by Bennacer with Sandro Tonali on the bench.

Jurgen Klopp will look to former Roma stars Alisson and Mohamed Salah with the Egypt international who scored one goal and delivered two assists in three appearances against the Rossoneri during his time in Serie A.

  1. Tonali is on fire. I expected him to start here, but OK.

There are a lot of matches to play, maybe it’s best for him to play under less pressure for now, but he needs to play in these kind of matches eventually to develop further.

  2. I think it’s good to rest Tonali, he played the full 90 on the weekend which he doesn’t usually do, and I expect he will start on the weekend again. But it would be good to keep him playing consistently so he can continue to grow, even if Kessie and Bennacer are back.

As for the lineup, it’s good apart from up front. Neither Rebic nor Leao are any good as centre forwards. But it is what it is. Given the players we have at our disposal for this match, I can’t think of a better starting 11.

  3. Great to see Romagnoli on the weekend but understand reverting back to Kaejr and Tomori. Please show some bravery and stick with Leao down the left.

  4. Attack looks weak, but we’ll see. A draw would be a good result, given the look of the two line-ups.
Serie A got 4 points last night. 4 more tonight would make it a good CL opening week.
