Napoli earned more in revenue than any other Italian club in the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League according to reports on Thursday morning.
As of Wednesday evening, all four Italian participants have been eliminated from the Champions League following Inter’s loss on penalties to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano.
Napoli and Lazio were knocked out by Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively on Tuesday evening. Both of those results were wrapped up by full-time of the second legs.
Champions League earnings consist of several different aspects, including a participation fee, which is the same for all clubs, as well as bonuses for ‘historical ranking’, which are different depending on the team.
Teams also earn more money the further into the competition they get. Among other things, clubs also receive a share of the Market Pool, which, again, varies from club to club.
Napoli came into the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League as the reigning Serie A champions and therefore earned more from their historical ranking than any other Italian club this season.
Calcio e Finanza estimate that Napoli will have earned a total of around €69.39m from this year’s Champions League.
Inter earned the second-highest amount of the Italian sides in this year’s Champions League with an estimated total of €65.58m. Lazio rank third with a figure of €60.78m, while Milan, who were eliminated at the end of the group stage, earned an estimated €48.03m.
Milan can still earn more from UEFA competitions this season, but that revenue will come from the Europa League prize pot rather than that of the Champions League.
