Manchester City swept Real Madrid aside 4-0 on the night, 5-1 on aggregate, to set up a Champions League Final date with Inter on June 10 in Istanbul.
Considering they are about to win the Premier League for the third year in a row and have reached the FA Cup Final, this could yet be a Treble for City.
It was another very aggressive start from Pep Guardiola’s men, but Thibaut Courtois made an astonishing save on Erling Braut Haaland’s header from close range, followed by an even better one-handed stop in a similar situation.
However, even he could not deny Bernardo Silva’s rocket into the near top corner after springing the offside trap on a Kevin De Bruyne through ball.
For all the possession, Real Madrid showed they need only a moment to change everything and Toni Kroos unleashed an absolute rocket from distance that smacked against the crossbar on 34 minutes with the aid of an Ederson fingertip.
Moments later, Bernardo Silva doubled his tally and City’s lead with a looping header into the empty net after another Courtois save on Ilkay Gundogan.
After the restart, David Alaba’s free kick dipped viciously to be fingertipped over the bar by Ederson, while Courtois again denied Haaland in a one-on-one situation.
Manchester City completed the rout when a De Bruyne free kick flicked off Manuel Akanji’s head and took a big deflection off Eder Militao to wrongfoot Courtois.
There was still time in stoppages for Julian Alvarez to add a fourth at the end of a fine passing move and Phil Foden assist.
Manchester City 4-0 Real Madrid (5-1 agg)
