CF Montreal have officially confirmed that Ismael Kone will join Watford on January 1, but it’s widely reported he will be at Udinese in the summer.

The Canada international has just completed his experience at the 2022 World Cup after featuring in all three group games.

His contract with CF Montreal runs to December 2023 and he has completed the transfer to Watford.

However, Sky Sport Italia and others are confident Kone was signed by Watford in synergy with Udinese and will move to Serie A from July 2023.

The two clubs are under the umbrella of the same owner, the Pozzo family, so regularly exchange players on loan and permanent transfers.

“I want to thank the Club for everything it has done for me,” said Koné on the official Montreal website.

“I grew as a player, but also off the field. I had a lot to learn, but the people here helped me develop. I’m grateful because I had the opportunity to begin my career at home.”

The 20-year-old midfielder was born in the Ivory Coast, but grew up in Montreal, Canada.

His first professional campaign was in 2022, where he played 26 games – starting 18 of them – contributing two goals and five assists in the MLS regular season.
