Cesare Prandelli will later today name his Italy squad to face Brazil and Alessio Cerci is widely expected to get his debut call-up.
The Azzurri play a friendly with Brazil in Geneva on Thursday evening, then travel to Malta for a World Cup qualifier on March 26.
Prandelli will name his squad before the evening kick-offs in Serie A and is expected to include some new faces.
It is known Prandelli and his scouts were viewing 25-year-old Torino winger Cerci, so he should receive his first ever senior Italy call-up.
The former Fiorentina man has scored 10 goals in 38 Italy appearances, but only at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.
He last pulled on the Azzurri jersey for the Under-21 side in June 2009.
Another potential new entry would be Genoa wide man Luca Antonelli, who has not featured for Italy since 2010.
However, Marco Verratti will not be in the squad, as he picked up an injury while playing for PSG.
