UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin wouldn’t mind seeing Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid out of UEFA: ‘They tried to kill football.’

The tug of war between Europe’s football governing body and the so-called Super League clubs continues.

Last week, Ceferin aimed a dig at former ECA President and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli, referring to him as the ‘old captain who escaped from the ship.’

This time around, he hits out at Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are the only three clubs not to have formally withdrawn from the Super League.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing them leave UEFA,” Ceferin said.

“It’s funny to see that they want to create a new competition and, at the same time, play in the Champions League,” Ceferin told Der Spiegel.

“These people tried to kill football with their incompetent directors,” he continued.

“Florentino Perez complains, saying his club can only survive with the Super League and then offers €180m to sign Kylian Mbappé.”

Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid working to change Super League format

According to reports in Germany, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid haven’t given up on their Super League project and are preparing a new format that includes two divisions: Super League 1 and Super League 2 with a system of promotion and relegations.

Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid are still out of ECA, while the other nine clubs that withdrawn from the Super League have been re-integrated.

  1. Is this guy for real, I mean what PSG and Man City are doing with their financial doping is not killing football, then what is? I see he is very quiet on that subject. I mean where is FFP?

You can’t treat football clubs as businesses and when they persue opportunities, you start acting holier than thou… They are either a business and the authorities have to accept what that entails from mergers/expansions/take overs etc… Or football clubs should be given special financial status in order to continue working.

  2. `the saviours of football`. what a croc. his little `friend` psg has been buying up football without consequence. this is your leader? exposed yet again. weakling.

  3. Super League 1 and 2 to include benfica, Ajax, Celtic red star etc would be good.

They might be able to compete a little better with extra revenues… As long as those greedy mothers don’t set up a system where they get the lion’s share of the money.

As for CO2 emissions, I don’t think they care

  4. For this man to say this shows that he has something to hide and is afraid that these 3 teams will eventually expose him.

  5. I think FFP needs to be scrapped and something totally new to replace it that regulates outgoings and makes football more sustainable. Barca are an example of why football needs to be financially sustainable, now more than ever. PSG signing top stars for silly money and paying them staggering wages, meanwhile it now costs a record high – over £85 per month – to watch football in the UK from home. Football is no longer for the fans.

  6. psg, man city and uefa killing football but still the super league idea is stupid. those clubs who come up with that dont need more money because all of this money will goes to agent and players fees. ordinary players will cost 100 millions euros and the stars will cost 250-300 millions. if something should be done is to reduce the incomes even in the cl money prizes and the tv rights. clubs should learn to work with less money – now its like bobble, and it need to explode immediately!

  7. Whether you agree with him or not (I don’t), those are completely inappropriate comments from an official at UEFA. Ceferin is a lawyer — doesn’t he understand how bad it looks to express personal opinions like that? I don’t know what kind of attorney would openly admit to personal animus, particularly when this is going to wind up in court at some point.

  8. Ceferin is openly aggressive,i think.there can’t be financial equilibrum in football-sorry to say-REALJUBARCELONA attract more fanfare and income than Benfica, shakthar, and zenith.
