UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin slams Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid for sticking by the Super League when ‘sending a letter asking to play in the Champions League’ and won’t rule out their exclusion.

The three clubs are the only remaining sides from the original 12 founders who haven’t disavowed the Super League project.

This prompted an investigation and the UEFA disciplinary committee will take action, with anything from fines to exclusion on the table.

“Our disciplinary committee is independent, so when they start to work on a case, there is no relationship, no information and I cannot comment,” Ceferin told Sky Sport Italia.

“I cannot say when or what the sanctions will be. What I find truly strange is that they are publicly still part of this Super League, declaring the desire to play it, but then send a letter asking to play in the Champions League.

“You cannot play the Champions League and be in the Super League. I don’t understand what it is they’re trying to do here.”

In their latest statement, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona urged dialogue to find a common path forward.

“There is no dialogue with them, because all they do is send formal letters to UEFA and the other nine clubs have left. They should’ve called us to organise a meeting, but that didn’t happen. It’s a strange approach.”

Ceferin was asked if Juventus are excluded from the Champions League, will Napoli be promoted in their place, having finished Serie A in fifth?

“I don’t want to comment on what might happen, because our committee is independent and will make the decisions.”
