UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin continues to hit out against Juventus patron Andrea Agnelli and said the European Cups ‘need the stories of teams like Atalanta’.

Ceferin feels betrayed by the 12 founding clubs of the Super League and continues to fight against the breakaway competition.

“For some clubs, supporters have become consumers, fans have become customers and competitions have become products,” Ceferin said, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

“Selfishness is replacing solidarity. Money has become more important than glory, greed more important than loyalty and dividends more important than passion.

“Football doesn’t belong to anyone. Or rather, it belongs to everyone, because football is part of our heritage.

“The great clubs of today weren’t necessarily great clubs in the past, and there’s no guarantee that they will become great clubs in the future and they should release that if they are European giants today, it’s partly thanks to UEFA.”

Ceferin, who attacked Juventus patron Andrea Agnelli yesterday, continued to hit out at the previous comments made by the Bianconeri owner.

Agnelli told FT Business of Football Summit that Atalanta didn’t have the ‘international history and thanks to just one great season’, questioning the fact that they had ‘direct access into the primary European club competition’.

“The UEFA competitions need the stories of teams like Atalanta, Celtic, Rangers, Galatasaray. We need these clubs, people need to know that anything is possible,” Ceferin added. “That everyone has a chance to win.

“The great clubs of today have not always been and there’s no guarantee that they will be in the future. Football is dynamic and unpredictable.

“This makes it such a great game.”
