Ceballos appeared to confirm on Monday that he would only consider a loan move away from Madrid as he still harboured hopes of succeeding at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, the midfielder – who recently won the European Under-21 Championship with Spain – is now less certain about his fate.

“I imagine Zidane will have seen the tournament, but he has very clear ideas and we all know what they are,” he told Marca.

“Now’s the time for me to rest well and disconnect after the season that’s just gone. I’ll take a couple of weeks to decide my future.

“The most important thing in life is to be happy, and for me that can only be achieved by playing 40 games a season.

“My personal objective for next season is to play 40 games, feeling comfortable with myself at all times, wherever that may be, as long as I’m at a place where I can feel valued.

“Right now, I don’t have any specific place in mind. What I do know is that I want to enjoy next season and I’m open to trying new experiences. I’m not afraid.

“I know that next season I’ll be faced with a very nice challenge. I’d like to try new things and, above all, enjoy them a lot.”
