Edison Cavani was overjoyed to see Napoli win the Scudetto this season and fondly looked back at his years with the club.

The Uruguayan striker spent three years of his career with the Partenopei from 2010 to 2013, scoring 104 goals in 138 appearances before making a €64.5m move to Paris Saint-Germain. Despite only spending a few years in Campania, he quickly grew into a fan favourite and is still fondly remembered.

Napoli ended a 33-year wait for the Scudetto this season after Luciano Spalletti and his squad dominated the landscape in Serie A, quickly leaving their rivals behind them with their electric attacking play.

Speaking to DAZN via Calciomercato.com, Cavani first discussed how it felt to see Napoli win the Serie A title this season.

“Napoli’s Scudetto was a great moment, everyone went crazy, that’s what happens when you fight so hard and you’re not used to winning. The fans needed a great emotion like that.”

The Uruguayan veteran reflected on his three-year spell in the Campania capital.

“All the years of my career have been fantastic, but those at Napoli were special because of a question of culture. I’m more a player from teams that have to fight with the big ones, I like more the challenge against Northern teams, as in their case, to achieve historical goals.

“At Napoli I didn’t win much, but we had some good moments, like the Coppa Italia after a long time. From that moment on Napoli relaunched themselves all the way to the Scudetto.

“I also wrote a post after winning the Scudetto, a small but heartfelt phrase like Forza Napoli. All of us former players wanted Napoli to win the Scudetto.”

Finally, Cavani discussed his enduring love of Napoli and the effect the club have on his family.

“I haven’t been back, only because of some family problems, but I’ll definitely be back one day. That’s for sure. My two sons are Napoli fans. When Napoli didn’t win the league or were out of the Champions League, they went crazy.

“They were born in Naples and grew up in a city that also gave me so much. So, it is right that they are free to cheer for Napoli. They know all the stadium songs. I only remember ‘I ragazzi della curva b’ but they joke because today there are new chants and songs.”
