Former Italy and Juventus legend Franco Causio has said that it is a shame Riccardo Calafiori has not moved to Turin this summer, but has implored Federico Chiesa to stay onboard under Thiago Motta.

The 1982 World Cup winner spoke in-depth to La Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published on Saturday.

What Causio said about Calafiori and Chiesa

Causio explained that it is ‘too bad’ Calafiori is moving to Arsenal instead of Juventus this summer.

“I would have seen him doing very, very well at Juventus,” he told the pink paper.

The 75-year-old also explained that he hopes to see Chiesa stay on at the Allianz Stadium to work under Thiago Motta.

Chiesa is now into the final 12 months of his contract with Juventus, and reports in Italy suggest that the club are looking to move him on this summer to avoid losing him for free in less than a year’s time.

Causio believes that Thiago Motta has a track record of getting the best out of his wide players, and feels that Chiesa could benefit from his guidance.

“If I were him, I would go to the Pope,” Causio joked when discussing Chiesa’s future.

“Jokes aside, he should do everything to stay, Thiago really knows how to get the best out of his wingers,” he continued.

Causio also had one last suggestion for the out-of-favour Italy international: “When I had a big challenge on my back. I change flanks, and I think he should do the same.”

  1. Why doesn’t Milan ever seem to buy in some local heros and revive their talents. It’s all mercenaries with them.
