Catania bought up land to build a new stadium, which President Antonino Pulvirenti promises will have a metro stop in the arena.

The Sicilians are bottom of the Serie A table and hot favourites for relegation, but are making plans for the future.

“We will create a structure that will amaze, just as we did when opening the Torre del Grifo training campus,” Pulvirenti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In terms of comfort and hospitality, it will be state of the art. We are planning a metro stop inside the stadium walls.

“There will also be car parks, a food court and other services to ensure the fans don’t run into any problems.

“That way our supporters and those of the visiting team can enjoy the game the way they do in other European stadiums we have so admired.”
