Catania President Antonino Pulvirenti has again warned “you assume Vincenzo Montella will join Roma, but that’s not the case.”
The Giallorossi confirmed Montella is top of their wish list after Luis Enrique walked away, while the Coach also admitted he had “a weakness” for his former club and would gladly return.
“You assume Montella will leave Catania and join Roma, but that’s not the case,” Catania patron Pulvirenti told Tele Radio Stereo 92.7.
“The issue of the Coach is not a priority for us. First of all we have to sort out the club structure, as next week we’ll present Sergio Gasparin as new general manager to replace Pietro Lo Monaco.
“I start from the assumption that Montella is our Coach and will also be here next season. There will be a moment when I talk to him, but right now I cannot predict what we’ll discuss.
“I don’t know if he will ask me to leave. I would only evaluate the situation if he were to say such a thing. It would certainly disappoint me if he did, because in January we worked out a transfer strategy that was tied to next season as well.
“If Montella wanted to leave then we’d have to start all over again with a new Coach.”
Pulvirenti has so far been adamant he won’t release Montella from his contract.
“Let it be clear this is not a personal issue. I have a good rapport with the Roma directors. However, I obviously have to think of what is right for Catania.”
