Catania President Antonio Pulvirenti is still convinced his side have what it takes to avoid the drop to Serie B.

With eight games of the season left, the Sicilian outfit lie bottom of Serie A and are six points from safety.

“I firmly believe, I am convinced we can avoid Serie B,” Pulvirenti is quoted as saying by CalcioNews24.

“We need to fight and get to the penultimate match, a game against our rivals Bologna, being a maximum of three points behind.”

The Elefanti chief also promised that even if the worst did come to the worst, the club would be in a strong position to bounce back to Italy’s top flight.

“This last financial year we have turned a profit,” he stated. “That’s important because it means we would be able to deal with relegation calmly, should it happen.

“Whatever happens, I will not dismantle the squad and I will not sell off the players.”
