Danilo Cataldi praised ‘the real Lazio’ after a 2-0 win over Genoa that broke an eight-match losing streak against the Grifone.

The Biancocelesti bounced back from a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday with a comfortable home courtesy of goals from Filip Djordjevic and Felipe Anderson.

"Lazio aren’t the team seen against Napoli, everyone knows that,” Cataldi told Lazio’s official TV channel after the match.

“Tonight was the real Lazio, we were aware of the difficulties we would encounter.

“Tonight was the real Lazio, we were aware of the difficulties we would encounter.

“Finally we have beaten Genoa and broken the taboo. It was a nice match, we made some errors and our physical condition isn’t at its best, but in these last three days we faced up to ourselves.

“We know that we must do more, and tonight we did it. The important thing was to win, because what counts is the result.

“It wasn’t the best time after we conceded five goals, but there isn’t that much of a gap between us and Napoli.

“We worked on our mentality, it wasn’t easy to pick ourselves up.

“We did the simple things right, that you do better in times of difficulty.

“We’ve shown that Lazio are here, and with goals from Filip and Felipe and there are also pieces of skill!

“Now we have won our three home games and lost two away, we know that match in Verona on Sunday will be difficult, but we will go there to play our game and will try to do better than on the other away trips.

“We'll work hard and we'll be ready.”
