Fiorentina sensation Gaetano Castrovilli confirmed he is close to signing a contract extension and has formed a bond with “guide” Franck Ribery.

The 22-year-old midfielder returned to base after a two-season loan at Cremonese and made an immediate impact, becoming a regular pick in Vincenzo Montella’s starting XI.

“We are very close to a contract renewal and I can’t wait to sign it,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Fiorentina are a great team and I am convinced we’ll do well in Serie A this season. Milan will be tough opponents on Sunday and determined to get back on track in front of their fans, but we want to play well and win.

“I supported Milan as a kid, because my idol was Kaka.”

Castrovilli has already developed a good understanding with World Cup winning teammate Ribery.

“He always suggests the best position, or how to place my body so I am more aggressive towards someone in possession. He really is a guide, which is pretty incredible.”

When he does score his first Serie A goal, we can expect something spectacular from Castrovilli’s celebration.

“I had originally signed up to a classical dance class when I was a kid. After my grandfather died, he was a big fan of Bari, so I decided to sign up to the local football school too. In just two-three months, I got a call from Bari.

“The dance training is helping a great deal with my movement and gestures on the field. It was such a unique feeling when the Fiorentina fans gave me a standing ovation, something I never expected. They believe in me and I want to continue like this.”

The young midfielder is being tipped for a senior Italy call-up, having missed the European Under-21 Championship due to a knee injury.

“My focus is on improving myself, but my family and I do still hope it happens. I’d be truly overjoyed if it did.”
