Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli had keyhole surgery on his knee today, which became necessary after he failed a medical with Bournemouth.

The Premier League side had agreed a transfer worth circa €12m plus bonuses and was all ready to make the move when the tests showed his knee had not fully healed.

Castrovilli was booked in for exploratory keyhole surgery and that was performed today at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome by Professor Mariani.

A statement from Fiorentina confirms the anterior cruciate ligament was insufficiently stable and was repaired.

The procedure went according to plan and it is not yet clear how long the recovery process will take.

The 26-year-old suffered a serious knee ligament injury in April 2022 and only returned to the field in January 2023, immediately suffering a new muscular issue.

He has four senior caps for Italy and is currently discussing a new contract with Fiorentina, as his current deal is due to expire at the end of this season.

  1. Castroveli should be playing as the attacking midfield for Italy ,with fratessi and christante with him in the midfield . That’s the best midfield 3 ,Italy has for now ,if they are fit.
