Shakhtar Donetsk coach Luis Castro believes the 3-0 Roma result was ‘unjust’ and the Stephan El Shaarawy goal should’ve been disallowed.

The Giallorossi won the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 at the Stadio Olimpico with goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini, El Shaarawy and Gianluca Mancini.

“The game changed after their second goal, but it should’ve been disallowed because there was a foul in the move leading up to El Shaarawy’s strike,” said Castro in his press conference.

In fact, the referee played the advantage, Shakhtar then gave the ball away and Roma scored.

“The regrets are that we didn’t make more of the chances that we created, while all three of their goals were avoidable. The result is unjust, because it was a balanced match.

“Roma were defending with five men, so we should’ve spread them more down the wings. We didn’t do well in the first half, but Roma didn’t create many chances either.”

The second leg is in Ukraine next Thursday.
