Salernitana coach Fabrizio Castori said he has seen Simy grow over the last weeks and believes he will see ‘the verdict on the pitch’ against Spezia on Saturday.

The Granata travel to Liguria for an early relegation battle, as the two teams are tied on four points after seven games and currently among the bottom three in Serie A.

Simy impressed with Crotone in Serie A last term and arrived on loan with an obligation to buy with conditions from during the summer.

The 29-year-old, who scored 20 times in 38 Serie A games in 2020-21, has played seven league games this term without scoring, but the coach believes his conditions are better after the international break.

“I’ll make a general speech: I took advantage of the break to work on the physical aspect,” Castori said at a press conference. “I see growth, there will be a verdict on the pitch.

“He can play together with [Milan] Djuric, they are two very strong players from a physical point of view and who, if they are in shape, also score goals.”

Salernitana have only scored five goals in the first seven games, conceding 15 in the process and sit one place above Spezia due to a better goal difference.

Simy has scored three times in six games against Spezia but has only been on the winning side twice.
