Kevin Lasagna came off the bench for a late volley to beat Empoli 1-0, though the Tuscans had been down to 10 for over an hour.
“Empoli proved to be a very tough opponent,” Castori told Sky Sport Italia.
“The team suffered and played against a strong side, but we did well to keep believing in ourselves right to the end. This goal puts us in a good position going into the final three rounds.”
Castori was also sent off for encroachment, as he walked on to the pitch when Levan Mchedlidze was sent off for lashing out an arm.
“I wasn’t protesting, I just wanted to figure out what was going on and forgot about the technical area.”
Carpi are now three points clear of Palermo and the relegation zone, but face a trip to Scudetto winners Juventus next week.
“The three-point advantage has to be maintained. We must go to Turin against Juve, but Palermo have some difficult fixtures too and these three points can compensate for our calendar.
“We’ve picked up seven points over the last eight days, the team is in good shape and we can have a go against anyone.”
Carpi’s final games are trips to Juve and Udinese, hosting Lazio in-between.
Palermo are at home to Sampdoria and already-relegated Verona with an away match at Fiorentina.
