“I was waiting so long for this goal, then after all that time for the VAR, when the referee pointed to the centre, the feeling was unique,” Castagne told Sky Sport Italia.

It was eventually a 3-0 result over Shakhtar Donetsk, so with Manchester City beating Dinamo Zagreb, it allowed Atalanta to qualify second in the group.

“We have done incredible things, both last season and in this campaign, but today stands out as a fantastic moment. It’s the first time Atalanta have been in the Champions League and we still managed to reach the final 16.”
