Antonio Cassano claims he rejected an offer from Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza because Virtus Entella are the only lower-League team he would join.

Cassano has not played a competitive game for over two years and remains a free agent, despite the efforts of Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani to reunite with the former Milan attacker at the Serie C club.

“It’s always an honour when two people of their stature think of you,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“It’s always an honour when two people of their stature think of you,” he told Il Secolo XIX.

“I still feel like a Serie A player, where I can still make the difference, but if I have to go down a division, to Serie B or Serie C, there’s only one team I’d join – Entella.

“I’d like to write a piece of history with them. I’d do it above all for the relationship of great esteem and friendship that I’ve been cultivating for some time with their President Gozzi, who is a wonderful and exquisite person, and also with the club.”

Entella were relegated from Serie B last season but could be let back into the second tier as a final decision has yet to be made over whether Avellino, Bari and Cesena will be replaced.
