Antonio Cassano was adamant that Barcelona shouldn’t sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer, claiming he ‘wouldn’t watch a game’.

The 28-year-old Belgian forward has not had an easy year with Chelsea following his €115m move from Inter last summer. He has only scored five goals in 23 Premier League appearances and the relationship between player and fans is still fractured following his bizarre interview in the autumn.

Speaking on BoboTV, Cassano discussed the possibility that Barcelona might sign Lukaku from Chelsea.

“I’m in love with Barca’s philosophy, but if they sign Lukaku I won’t watch a game anymore.

“He can’t play three passes with Chelsea where he has no competition, at Barcelona they play 55 before going for goal, how could he do it?”

It’s still unclear whether or not the Belgian will leave the Blues in the summer, with the club’s future still uncertain following the takeover by the British government. It’s incredibly hard to imagine a deal being hashed out before a new takeover is fully finalised.

The 28-year-old Lukaku, who is contracted to Chelsea until 2026, has made 40 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2405 minutes. In that time, he’s scored 12 goals and provided two assists.
