Italy boss Cesare Prandelli claims Antonio Cassano is under no illusion that this is his last chance to shine at the highest level.
Cassano was called up to La Nazionale on Sunday for the first time since his epic falling out with Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone in late October.
The 28-year-old allegedly swore at Garrone and refused to attend an awards ceremony held in his honour, prompting Sampdoria to ask that his contract be rescinded.
Eventually the matter was resolved in December when Milan opted to take Cassano off Samp's books.

Asked to reveal how he has treated Cassano, Prandelli replied: "I haven't said anything in particular to him because what there was to say has already been said.
"He needs to show the right behaviour and continuity."
Prandelli then reflected on his decision to call up another oriundo in Inter midfielder Thiago Motta.
"FIFA's ok for his call up arrived this morning. I find it extraordinary that players who aren't born in this country ask to wear the blue shirt.
"I call up players who deserve it and I try to look beyond the polemic regarding a multi-ethnic national team because football unites and polemic of this nature does bad not only to our sport but to Italy."
