Antonio Cassano has claimed that “the whole world” would have been talking about Atalanta forward Josip Ilicic if he played at Juventus.

The former Italy international heaped more praise on the Slovenian, who scored four goals in a 4-3 win against Valencia ahead of the forced break due to the Coronavirus.

Those four goals brought his total tally to 21 across all competitions, as the 32-year-old has impressed yet again in his third season with the Orobici.

Those four goals brought his total tally to 21 across all competitions, as the 32-year-old has impressed yet again in his third season with the Orobici.

Cassano suggested that he deserves to be regarded as one of the best and pointed out that the Dea forward would probably get the recognition he deserved if he played at the Allianz Stadium.

“If Ilicic had met [Atalanta coach Gian Piero] Gasperini ten years ago, he would have become one of the five best players in the world,” Cassano told Tiki Taka on Instagram. “If he had been at Juve in [Paulo] Dybala’s role, the whole world would have been talking about him.”

Cassano retired in October 2018 and has experience from top teams like Roma, Real Madrid, Milan and Inter, and he suggested clubs in Italy to look at Colombian 21-year-old Jorge Carrascal from River Plate.

“One for the future? Carrascal from River, he’s a 20-year-old Kaka.”

The 37-year-old also had time to encourage people to stay at home during the Coronavirus emergency, to help contain the rapid spread of the highly infectious disease.

“If you keep going out, we will still be here in 2040,” he said. “Two weeks ago, I thought this virus was something superficial, but instead we need to fear it.

“Stay at home, watch movies and make babies.”
