Former Azzurri and Milan striker Antonio Cassano has weighed in on the Rossoneri’s needs in the transfer market, claiming that Stefano Pioli is in need of another centre-forward and believes that the solution is already playing in Serie A.

If it were up to Cassano, Milan would be going after Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus, who has been widely reported to be uncertain over his long-term future in Turin under Massimiliano Allegri.

The Serbian international has struggled for consistent form in front of goal since arriving for €80m from Fiorentina in January 2022 and has scored just twice in Serie A since the start of the calendar year, both goals coming as a brace in the 3-0 win over Salernitana in February.

However, Cassano believes that Vlahovic could rediscover the form he showed with Fiorentina if he is granted a move away from the Allianz Stadium.

“If I were Milan, I would go for Vlahovic,” he said. “If you get to the Champions League you have to sign a strong striker. They took on Ibra at a low point and it went well, Giroud had never exceeded 15 goals in his career.

“Milan are doing an exceptional job and have one of the best goalkeepers in the world, they are covered in midfield, they have Leao who ought to stay, if he has to make a single purchase he should put in 50-60 million and sign Vlahovic.”

Cassano also believes that current Vlahovic’s situation at Juventus is untenable and that the club could soon be forced into an ultimatum.

He continued: “If Pioli arrives in the top four, you have to make (financial) sacrifices for him. And I repeat, I would focus on Vlahovic who will want to relaunch himself and Juventus will have to make a choice: either they let Allegri go or they let Vlahovic go.”
