It was claimed this week that FantAntonio had texted the Liverpool striker, promising the pair would ‘do great things together’ at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

“Some of you write stupid things,” Cassano scolded journalists at his presentation Press conference.

“I haven’t spoken with Balotelli, I’m not a sporting director. I don’t have to call other players. [Luis] Muriel and Eder are here, who I respect, so why would I call a player?

“Before I’ve even started I’d start stirring things? I’d never do that. It’s something that has caused me a lot of trouble.”

Cassano was also asked about his falling-out with ex-President Riccardo Garrone, who died in 2013, and admitted it’s his biggest regret.

“I’m sad to be coming back here without a President like Garrone. That’s the only mistake I would never make again.

“I hope he can feel that I love him very much.”
