Antonio Cassano confirmed he is in hospital receiving treatment after complications from COVID-19. ‘I had a real scare, but I’m happy to be going back home.’

The former Inter, Milan, Real Madrid, Roma and Sampdoria striker tested positive for the Coronavirus before Christmas.

He felt unwell over the last few days and was taken into the San Martino hospital in Genoa.

“I thank Professor Bassetti and his staff, they were truly exceptional,” Cassano told the Secolo XIX newspaper.

“I had a real scare, but it went well and I am happy to be going back home.”

A statement from Professor Matteo Bassetti at the San Martino hospital specified the treatment was required after his oxygen levels began to drop below the danger level.

Cassano has received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, but not the booster shot.

Tests showed initial signs of pneumonia, so he was administered the anti-viral drug Remdesivir and has been in hospital for the last three days.

His condition is improving and the former player should be released to continue his recovery at home from tomorrow.

  1. Hopefully before he left the hospital they installed a filter from his brain to his mouth.
