The 33-year-old returned to the Blucerchiati as a free agent after his spell at bankrupt Parma and is looking to the future with confidence.
“I thank the President for making this dream come true,” he said in a Press conference.
“I will thank him a thousand more times. If I came here, it is to do better than in the past. If I wanted to put my feet up and get paid, I would’ve gone to a different country.
“The main thing is to not be an idiot. I must avoid doing stupid things and I have promised this to the President. I’ll do everything possible to make sure the squad gets results.
“What is our objective? To get as many points as possible. I’ve never been someone who rests on his laurels. As things stand, this team is a lot stronger than the Samp that finished fourth.
“In fitness terms I am behind the others, but I am ready to fight for the Sampdoria cause. Mentally I am ready, but I do need to lose 3-4kg.”
Cassano hopes he can not only become a hero to Sampdoria fans again, but also return to wearing the Italy jersey.
“There’s a bit of an age gap now with the current Nazionale players, but with my quality I want to make it difficult for Antonio Conte to ignore me.
“Can I be the symbol of Sampdoria? That’s impossible, as we have Angelo Palombo who has been here for 15 years. I am here to be a player, that’s all.
“I never hurt the Sampdoria fans, even if they were disappointed with my behaviour four years ago. I want everyone to come together.”
While on hiatus, FantAntonio gave a scathing review of all the other Serie A contenders and hasn’t entirely changed his mind.
“I hope that Inter can win the Scudetto, but I find it unlikely. Juventus are the favourites for the next four to five years, while behind them Roma can cause a few problems.
“That is unless Milan sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in which case I can guarantee they’ll get the title.”
