Former Italy striker Antonio Cassano says Carlo Ancelotti was lucky against PSG and Chelsea and can’t remember a player who developed under the Italian tactician.

Ancelotti is the only coach to have qualified for the Champions League semi-finals in four different decades and holds the record for the most victories in the competition as a coach: three, the same as ex-Liverpool boss Bob Paisley and Zinedine Zidane, who was Ancelotti’s assistant at Real Madrid in 2014.

The Merengues beat PSG and Chelsea in the Champions League knock-out phase, qualifying for the semi-final, where he will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Former Serie A star Antonio Cassano was not impressed by the Merengues’ performances in Europe and has criticised Ancelotti.

“Real Madrid played badly against Chelsea and PSG, he [Ancelotti] was really, really lucky. But luck will end sooner or later,” the ex-striker told Bobo TV on Twitch.

“Real Madrid don’t play well in La Liga, Barcelona had a bad start, but now it’s a different story. Ancelotti makes players feel well, but I can’t remember one who developed under him.”

Cassano played for one and a half years at Real Madrid but only managed four goals in 29 appearances before returning to Italy, signing with Sampdoria. The former Italy striker retired in 2017 after winning just four trophies in his career: two Italian Supercups, one Scudetto and one La Liga title. He was named best young player of the year in 2001 and 2003.
