Former Lazio and Chelsea striker Pierluigi Casiraghi criticised an Italian journalist on Twitter for comparing the arrest of mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro to a potential swap deal involving Memphis Depay and Joaquin Correa.

Messina Denaro was Italy’s most-wanted mafia boss and was arrested this morning in a private clinic in Palermo after 30 years on the run.

Fabrizio Biasin, an Italian journalist and a well-known Inter fan, said on Twitter that the news was the ‘best one to start the week’ but added that the potential swap deal between Correa and Depay was also ‘not bad.’

It was meant to be an ironic tweet, but former striker Casiraghi was not impressed.

“Comparing the arrest of a mafia boss, author of countless brutal murders (including that of a child dissolved in acid), and the swap deal Correa/ Depay, says a lot about your human sensitivity and, above all, your professionalism as a journalist,” said the ex forward of Lazio, Juventus, Monza and Chelsea.

Biasin may be disappointed to know that Depay’s lawyer Sebastien Ledure has revealed today that he is not in talks with Inter over a potential transfer in January.

Former Inter, Juventus and Italy striker Totò Schillaci was among those at the clinic Maddalena in Palermo this morning and described the arrest of Messina Denar as a “Wild West movie.”
