Former Spartak Moscow Coach Massimo Carrera is the new favourite to replace Aurelio Andreazzoli on the Genoa bench.

President Enrico Preziosi had already tried to dismiss Andreazzoli two weeks ago, but was forced to keep him on due to a lack of alternatives, as Gennaro Gattuso and Stefano Pioli turned down the job.

After today’s 5-1 defeat at Parma, even Andreazzoli acknowledged in his post-match comments that it was the end of the road.

After today’s 5-1 defeat at Parma, even Andreazzoli acknowledged in his post-match comments that it was the end of the road.

Options to take over include Francesco Guidolin, former Genoa and PSG midfielder Thiago Motta and ex-Udinese boss Davide Nicola.

However, the new favourite this evening according to Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport is Carrera.

The 55-year-old’s only experience of management in Italy is being in Antonio Conte’s staff at Juventus, having to take the main role for nine games at the start of the 2012-13 season, when Conte and Cristian Stellini were suspended.

Carrera went on to work with Conte for Italy until 2016, when he moved to Russia and ended up winning the league title with Spartak Moscow.
