Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher praised Italy international Guglielmo Vicario despite Tottenham’s 4-1 loss against Chelsea on Monday: ‘You talk about a sweeper keeper, I’ve never seen anything like that!’

Vicario’s four saves against Chelsea were not enough for Spurs to avoid their first defeat this season.

They had been reduced to ten men following red cards to Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie, but still tried to win the game by keeping a high line and Vicario produced some great saves, including one on Marc Cucurella.

Carragher was impressed by Vicario and praised the Italian on Sky Sports after the match.

“You talk about a sweeper keeper, I’ve never seen anything like that,” said the former Liverpool defender.

“He’s been an absolute revelation since he came to Tottenham.

“I hope Franco Baresi and Arrigo Sacchi watched this,” he added, speaking about Ange Postecoglou’s approach following Tottenham’s two red cards.

“I’ve never seen Milan push that high even with 11 men. These were nine men and it’s something I had never seen.”
