[et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali said he’s ‘sorry’ for Domenico Berardi that the the conditions were not in place to sell the Italy international. ‘We are also happy that he’s staying with us’.

Berardi was linked with a move away from the Neroverdi this summer, after having played an important role with the Azzurri during the European Championship this summer.

But Carnevali, who eventually sold Manuel Locatelli to Juventus, said there were not the right conditions to let ‘their most important player’ leave too.

Italy vs. Lithuania: nine absent for the Azzurri, latest probable line-ups

“Win a European Championship and you are compared with the champions,” Carnevali told Radio24. “You can have the idea of change.

“We were willing to evaluate how it was done with Locatelli, but there must be the right conditions for everyone and with him there were not.

“We are sorry, but also happy that he’s staying with us. For us, he’s the most important player, he has grown with us in all respects. He has great quality and he’s crucial in a team like ours, also from a human point of view.”

Berardi is expected to play for Italy against Lithuania tonight, where Giacomo Raspadori could get a chance to start up front.

Carnevali praised the youngster too, but stressed Raspadori must show his worth.

“He’s a young player of great quality, he must demonstrate his abilities.”[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column]
