Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has claimed Roberto De Zerbi ‘will stay’ at the Mapei Stadium even if a big offer arrives and wants to make Domenico Berardi a ‘club symbol’.

The Neroverdi have impressed to such an extent that coach De Zerbi and his stars are being linked with moves to the bigger clubs in Italy.

But the CEO Carnevali stressed that Sassuolo are hoping to take another leap forward and believes the coach will remain.

“I have no doubt, even if an important offer arrives, that De Zerbi will stay here with us,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport. “I have a great relationship with Roberto.

“He’s a serious person and our project is with him. We must continue and he is a fundamental piece for us. Maybe a big offer will come, but he will stay here with us. He will be the first to reject it.”

Berardi came through the youth ranks at Sassuolo and keeps being linked with a move away from the club.

This term the 25-year-old has bagged 13 goals and contributed seven assists in his 27 League games and Carnevali reassured the Neroverdi fans that he intends making him a ‘club symbol’.

“As a club, we have always said that we would like to make him the club symbol of Sassuolo,” Carnevali said. “He’s the vice-captain, he’s doing well, and he has great qualities.

“We would like to keep him, but we will see what happens. We want to achieve important sporting merits, with strong players. Berardi is one of those. The club wants to keep the best.”
