Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali praised coach Roberto De Zerbi for always ‘helping the youngsters in the squad’ and aims to bring through another academy player in 2020-21.

The Neroverdi finished eight in Serie A 2019-20 and De Zerbi has been confirmed for next season, something Carnevali thinks the youngsters can benefit from.

“De Zerbi is a coach of the highest quality, an intelligent man, who has always kept an eye towards the young players in the squad,” Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia. “He knows how to help them grow, just as he knows how to develop the older players too.

“We have a valuable squad, an excellent team, also thanks to our scouting system. The success is shared among all.

“Here at Sassuolo there are all the components to make the lads develop and make them express themselves in the right way.”

Carnevali stressed that the Neroverdi are determined to bring up at least one academy player every season.

“Our goal is to bring one player to the first team each year,” he added. “The last one was [Giacomo] Raspadori and he scored immediately in Rome [in a 2-1 win against Lazio].

“It couldn’t have been better.”
