Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali confirms Inter wanted to sign both Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca in the summer, but the Neroverdi ‘didn’t need to sell.’

Inter sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea during the summer transfer window and both Raspadori and Scamacca had emerged as possible replacements for the Belgian forward.

During an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali confirmed the Nerazzurri had asked for both strikers.

“Marotta asked me for both, but we gamble on young players and for this reason, we sold [Francesco] Caputo,” Carnevali said.

“Now Giacomo and Gianluca will have more chances to show their qualities.

“Our club do not need to sell at all costs and we do certain operations only when we deem it appropriate, also taking into account the good of the boys.”

Sassuolo sold Manuel Locatelli and Caputo to Juventus and Sampdoria respectively, both on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.

“Raspadori is an attacker with great qualities and technical skills out of the ordinary,” Carnevali continued.

“In addition to this, he is also an extraordinary boy and this creates an exceptional union.

“We are not considering parting ways with him. I think that Italian clubs are very much focused on Italian players now even if foreign sides also monitor one like Raspadori.”

Raspadori, 21, made his senior Italy debut during UEFA Euro 2020 in June and scored his first goal with the Azzurri in a World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania this past October. His contract at the Mapei Stadium runs out in 2024.

Scamacca, 22, returned to Sassuolo after a one-year loan at Genoa where he netted 12 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.

His contract with the Neroverdi expires in June 2025.
