Empoli sporting director Marcello Carli says defender Daniele Rugani is ‘ready for Juve’ after his debut Serie A season.

The young defender has formed an integral part of Maurizio Sarri’s defence which has conceded just 30 goals in 28 games this season, a better record than Napoli, Inter and Milan.

The 20-year-old is set to return to Juventus next season, and the director doesn’t think it has come too soon.

“Is Rugani Juventus quality?” Carli considered in an interview with Sky.

“I think so, his professional approach his his greatest quality. I think he’s ready for Juve. If they don’t think so then we’re happy to keep him.”

Carli was also asked about rumours that Maurizio Sarri is in contention for the Milan job alongside the likes of Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“[Pippo] Inzaghi is there now, and we must respect that. Personally I hope Maurizio stays with us, because I don’t think we could afford Mihajlovic!

“Seriously, the speculation over his future makes us happy because it means he’s doing a great job.”
