Cardinale reportedly wants Ibrahimovic in new Milan role

Milan owner Gerry Cardinale reportedly offered Paolo Maldini a chance to stay on as a consultant, which was rejected outright, and is now eager to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic in as a club manager.

There has been a revolution within the Rossoneri over the last 24 hours, with Maldini sacked following a disastrous meeting with RedBird chief Cardinale, then today director of sport Ricky Massara terminated his contract by mutual consent with a year left to run.

According to Calciomercato.com, Cardinale had tried to offer a different role to Maldini, remaining as a consultant with no real powers, but that was considered practically insulting by the man who for the last few years has been in control of transfer strategy and negotiations.

Instead, the same source argues that the next plan is to hire Ibrahimovic as a connecting figure between the team and the hierarchy, given the role of ‘club manager.’

The Sweden international announced he was hanging up his boots on Sunday and is unclear on what his next move will be.

Stefano Pioli already said he wanted Ibra as part of his coaching staff, but that the striker was not strong on the idea.
