Milan owner Gerry Cardinale promises Milan’s new stadium will be “phenomenal” and ready in five years and admits it would be “fantastic” to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in the club.
The Rossoneri owner released an interview with ClassCnbc after attending the National Italian American Foundation Gala in Washington on Sunday.
“Gordon and Paul Singer did a great job and helped us hit the ground running,” he said.
“But we didn’t have an American approach, with guns blazing. We took time to change and the welcome was fantastic.”
Lega Serie A is considering creating their own TV service to broadcast league games from next season and Cardinale seems to be backing the idea.
“Commercial revenue has never been this high. In the future, our experience could be helpful to the whole league in considering new models of distribution, such as the media company,” he said.
“We would bring the best practices of USA sports to Italy, but we’d need to adapt. Italy deserves to return to the top of European football.”
Speaking about his plans for Milan’s future, he said: “Milan have the second highest number of Champions League after Real Madrid and we want to bring the club back to the level of when Berlusconi was the president but with new methods.”
Cardinale added that RedBird, who acquired Milan in 2022, remain self-sustaining in terms of capital but may be looking for new investors from Italy and the USA. The Rossoneri owner also confirmed that a new stadium built in the area of San Donato would be ready in five years and will be “phenomenal” and confirmed that he is in talks with Ibrahimovic to make the ex-Sweden striker return to the club.
“Zlatan is a legend and he would be a fantastic advisor to me. He would bring his leadership to the team, now it’s up to him to decide,” Cardinale concluded.
