During his interview with Bloomberg Podcast ‘The Deal’ Milan owner Gerry Cardinale confirmed his plans to build a new ‘American’ stadium for the Rossoneri: ‘We need to find a way to crystalise the value there. That’s something you should probably own forever.’

Cardinale spoke about his journey in European football in his latest appearance on Bloomberg podcast ‘The Deal.’

The Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of RedBird Capital Partners admitted that he “did nothing” during his first as the club owner but started making changes in the summer of 2023.

“We made a lot of changes. We retooled the sporting director side, and we also turned over half the team from a players’ standpoint. We have Captain America, Pulisic as well as other great players,” he said. “Our team’s average age is 23, so we have room to grow.”

Cardinale also opened up about his plans for the club’s future, especially constructing a new stadium.

“One of our issues is building a new stadium, the first built in Italy since 2011. It’ll be an American stadium with 70,000 seats,” he said.

“We are going to bring music to Milan and build some big entertaining events anchored by the team.

“We need to find a way to crystalise the value there. That’s something you should probably own forever. It is as iconic as it gets. There is a platform and we are going to build this new stadium. When we are done building that stadium, I promise we’ll have a company out there that builds stadiums.”

Milan currently play at the Stadio Meazza in San Siro, which they share with city rivals Inter. Milano’s major, Beppe Sala, recently offered Milan and Inter the opportunity to acquire and refurbish the old Meazza, but the Milanese sides still seem convinced.

Milan have recently acquired a vast area in San Donato, on the outskirts of Milan, where they are planning to build their new arena.
