Wednesday afternoon saw the striker officially complete a loan switch to Novara, which according to Caracciolo, was always his first choice destination.

“I chose Novara because it is a club that has shown belief in me. In reality there are also few clubs as organised or structured as they are in Serie A, I think it is the right place for my revival.

“I come from a not-so-positive period with Genoa and I want to redeem myself. Survival will not be an easy target, but Novara can do it and I say this because I am the first to believe it.”

The 6ft4 30-year-old developed the nickname ‘L’Arione’ – The Heron – for his ability in the air and for a unique goal celebration.

“Two qualities that I have always been recognised for in spite of my height are my speed and coordination.

“Of course I have to feel good physically to give my best , my body structure requires it. I will continue to live in Milan, with my wife and children.”
