One year has passed since Francesco Caputo’s held up the sign during Sassuolo-Brescia, the last match before the lockdown that interrupted Serie A.

After scoring, Ciccio Caputo showed the cameras a sign that read: “Everything will be fine, stay at home.”

The people were preparing to remain at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still affecting lives all over the world.

Sassuolo released a video to remember that day and the striker appeared in an interview on their official channel.

“I thought about [the sign] in the dressing room and I wrote it down, nobody knew anything,” Caputo told the club’s official channel.

“I gave it to the team manager and then I held up the sign [after scoring].”

The Italy striker explained it was a difficult time but felt the lockdown was the ‘right decision’.

“We didn’t know how to approach this pandemic and how to go forward,” the forward said.

“At that time, the message was to stay at home and then the lockdown came, and we all stayed at home.

“It was the right decision at the time, and useful because it was really a difficult situation. It seemed like a battle, a war.

“It’s been hard and we are still in the pandemic. We need to respect the rules because they are important.

“In this moment, I might get the desire to write a sign saying that we should all vaccinate, because that’s the best path.
“We know it’s not easy but if we manage to gradually vaccinate everyone, we will be able to get out of this situation.”
