The Nerazzurri have had a problematic start to the season, but the veteran has claimed that their campaign has been complicated by key players being sidelined.

“We have had a few injury problems this term,” the Argentine told Sky Sport Italia. “However, if Inter can have everyone back then we will be competitive again.

“Douglas Maicon is now back which is a boost as he is a man who can make the difference, just like players such as Wesley Sneijder and Diego Forlan who aren’t available at the moment.”

Zanetti missed the 2-0 win over Fiorentina on Saturday night, but he was delighted with the three points.

“I was suspended after the first red card in Serie A of my career, but the important thing is that the team won after two defeats.

“It's vital that this Inter always bounces back, as they did.”

Nerazzurri boss Claudio Ranieri was also happy with the three points, although he cautiously noted that Inter’s season hadn’t instantly changed for the better as a result.

“The Coach is right,” added Zanetti. “Whenever we talk about a turning point we find ourselves at the receiving end of another blow.

“We now just hope to pick up all the points on the run-in to the Christmas break.”
