Director Leonardo Capozucca confirms Walter Mazzarri will stay until the end of the season, but ‘for some players this was their last game in the Cagliari jersey. Some don’t have respect for anyone.’

It was another disastrous evening for the Sardinians, but while a 4-0 to Inter at San Siro is one thing, losing by the same result at home to fellow relegation battlers Udinese is another matter.

There seemed to be tears in the eyes of many players, including Alessandro Deiola, Diego Godin and Leonardo Pavoletti, at the final whistle after a Gerard Deulofeu brace, Nahuel Molina scorcher and the very early Jean-Victor Makengo opener.

Walter Mazzarri did not speak to the media after the game, so only director of sport Capozucca eventually came to the media zone.

“There’s not much to say. We should all stay quiet and the only reason we’re here is for a professional courtesy, because no words can justify a performance like that,” Capozucca told Sky Sport Italia.

After the game, the Cagliari Twitter account only had one word: ‘Sorry.’

“The apology is for everyone. To you who are here waiting for someone to speak to your microphones. To the fans who cheered the team on and expected a good performance.

“When you leave 4-0 at home, what can you say? You just say sorry and feel a healthy sense of shame for that performance.”

There are inevitably reports that Mazzarri will be sacked and predecessor Leonardo Semplici brought back in, but Capozucca warns the revolution will be within the squad.

“It’s a long season, we have time to recover and hope to do that. The only certainty we have now is Mazzarri, who will remain the Cagliari coach all the way to the end of the season.

“However, I think some players are not worthy of wearing this jersey and it is time they leave Cagliari. Respect is needed. I saw some things that are not good, both on and off the field.”

There were tears in the eyes of Alessandro Deiola, Leonardo Pavoletti and Diego Godin at the final whistle.

“I saw some players crying and that means they care about this club and the jersey, they are sad at the result. Dignity and respect must always be there and some players here don’t have respect for anyone.

“The situation precipitated because we wanted some positive signs and we didn’t get them. I think I’ve already said too much, but I do believe for some players this was their last game in the Cagliari jersey.”

  1. Inter rescinded Naggilons contract so that he could remain at Calgari (and themselves save $$) and he duly deserted Calgari when they needed him and joined another club.

  2. @Urban Sombrero… Nainggolan wanted to stay but Cagliari were playing their usual dirty contract games with him and Inter, so he simply decided to leave. Inter lost a lot with Nainggolan deal but that was a good middle finger to Cagliari directors when Inter rescinded his contract, so he can freely join whoever he wanted. Ninja took his revenge against them and left!

  3. Nainggolan wanted to join Cagliari, but it was Cagliari who suddenly didnt want him. Now they pay the consequences. I just feel sorry for Godin
